Joseph Michael Kelly is an architect, technologist, and construction
manager in private practice. His experience involves a wide range of
architectural design activities and the design of engineering systems
incidental to the practice of architecture. He is based in Greenville,
SC, and Philadelphia and divides his time between practice and research.
His architectural approach is primarily scientific in outlook and is
distinguished by its sensitive, ecological, humanistic, and resonant
response of indigenous tradition. His current research focus is on the
use of architectural techniques for energy conservation: building form
and fabric, daylighting and natural ventilation, integrated design,
health and comfort in the indoor environment and the broader
environmental impact of the technology of ecological building.
Mr. Kelly
graduated from Southern Polytechnic State University with a Bachelor of
Architectural Engineering Technology, University of Wisconsin-Madison
with a P.D. in Engineering and Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh,
Scotland, with a Master of Science in Building Services Engineering. He
is a Registered Architect in the states of Georgia, New Jersey, North
Carolina, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina. Mr. Kelly is a member of the
Architectural Association of Ireland (AAI), Architectural Engineering
Institute (AEI), Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE),
and certified by the National Council Architectural Registration Boards
(NCARB). His work has received awards from the American Society of
Landscape Architects in recognition of outstanding professional
achievement and from the South Carolina Department of Land Resources for
planning and design. Several of his projects were recently published in
a new book entitled "Landscape Design for Energy Efficiency".
