Suneeth Varghese
Summer 2009
Suneeth Varghese joined the CSC during the summer
of 2009 to aid with developing a
database, helping with programming, and developing the Temple-Villanova
Sustainable Stormwater Initiative website and several other projects.
Suneeth is currently
perusing his Master’s in Electrical Engineering at Temple University.His
interests include digital signal processing, telecommunications systems,
and web
programming & development. |

Jason
Flax
Summer 2009
Jason Flax
is an undergraduate student from the Tyler School of Art and is
completing his Bachelor of Architecture in
pursuit of professional architectural practice. Jason’s interests in architectural
design involve topics regarding graphic and web design, food security in
urban conditions, sustainable urban agriculture, and architectural
interventions in dense urban environments. Before joining the Center for
Sustainable Communities, Jason has worked as an assistant project
designer for architecture and lighting design firms in the Philadelphia
area over the last few years. |

Sujin
Park
Spring 2008 - Spring 2009
Sujin Park
joined the CSC research team in spring 2008. Her responsibilities
included building a GIS database based on the assessment of the spatial
relationship between hunger insecurity and the distribution of hunger
relief services in the Delaware Valley region. She has a B.A. in Forestry
from Chonbuk National University, South Korea and a M.S. in Community
and Regional Planning from Temple University. Her interests include
environmental planning, urban forest management planning, international
community revitalization planning, and smart growth. |

Nina
Morris
Spring 2009
Nina Morris received two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Spanish and
Religious Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University. Nina worked
with Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation on developing and
initiating a comprehensive green plan for the redevelopment of
Philadelphia Navy Yard. The plan included developing a recycling program
and a closed-system bikeshare. She worked on various research projects
at the Center. |
Anna
Boisnic
Fall 2007 - Spring 2009
Anna Boisnic’s work at CSC included
the profiling of regional stormwater best management practices for the
Temple-Villanova Sustainable Stormwater Initiative website. During her
two years as a research assistant, she has also aided the department
with developing data for studies related to municipal codes and
housing, and has been teacher assistant for Professor William Cohen’s
course “People, Places, and the Environment.” Anna developed a
sustainable community plan for a village in southwestern Ecuador for
her final Master’s project. Anna has her B.A. in French from the
University of Mary Washington in Virginia. |

Mari
Radford
Fall 2007 - Fall 2008
Mari completed her masters degree from the Department of Community and Regional
Planning at Temple University in December 08. She was a research assistant studying innovative land use
regulations that help create livable communities supportive of active
lifestyles. She has a BS in History from
Willamette University (Salem, OR) and served overseas with the US
Department of State as a Community Liaison Officer, Assistant General
Services Officer and Coordinator for the US Liaison Office in Mogadishu,
Somalia. Mari is interested in community development and emergency
planning. She is currently working as an Emergency Management
Coordinator at URS Corp. |

Alice
Walters
Fall 2007 - Fall 2008
Alice Walters completed her masters degree from the Department of Community and Regional
Planning at Temple University in December 08. She was a research
assistant studying community hunger relief food access network and
stormwater best management practices. She graduated from Penn
State University in 1999 with a degree in Environmental Resource
Management. After spending time in China in summer 08, she gained new
interest in helping developing countries to make policy and planning
decisions that encourage environmental sensitivity and sustainability.
She is currently working as an environmental planner at Bucks County
Planning Commission. |
Andreea Ambrus
Fall 2005 - Summer 2008
Ms Andreea
Ambrus graduated from the Department of Community and Regional Planning
at Temple University in August 08. She worked as volunteer intern for
the CSC from fall 2005 to spring 2006, and then she joined the
research team as a research assistant. Her responsibilities included
creating GIS maps and data, data processing, and data analysis.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Geography from Babes-Bolyai
University, Romania. Her interests are 3D Modeling, ArcGIS, (with its
extensions Spatial Analyst and 3D Analyst), transportation planning and
environmental planning. She is currently working as a Community Health
GIS Specialist at Lehigh Valley Hospital. |

Straso Jovanovski
Fall 2006 - Summer 2008
Mr.
Jovanovski graduated from the Department of Community and Regional
Planning at Temple University in August 08. He came from Republic of Macedonia, and
was a
transfer student from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, TN.
There he completed B.B.A. degree with CIS concentration and was
enrolled for one year in the MBA program.
His fields of interests are environmental planning and community
development. |
Lan
Jiang
Spring 2007 - Summer 2007
Ms Lan
Jiang has graduated from the Department of Community and Regional
Planning at Temple University in 2007. As a research assistant of the
Center, Ms. Jiang has been involved in Philadelphia Community Food
Access Study and Upper Dublin Environmental Resources Inventory Study.
Before that she worked as a GIS intern at The Reinvestment Fund in
summer 2006. She has a B.S. in Landscape Architecture from Nanjing
Forestry University, China. She is now working full-time as a GIS
Analyst at Toole Design Group, located in DC Metro Area. |

Dennis Dalbey
Summer 2005 - Summer 2006
Mr. Dalbey is a graduate student in the Community and Regional
Planning department at Temple University Ambler. He joined the CSC
research team in Summer 2005 as a GIS Intern.
Mr. Dalbey has a M.A. in Political Science from East Stroudsburg
University, a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Kutztown University and a
GIS certification from Penn State. His interests include Cartography,
ArcGIS, and ArcView extensions, including spatial analysis and 3D
analysis.
At present Mr. Dalbey works as a Geodemographer at Marketing Systems
Group. He pulls demographic data sets for clients through a variety of
demographic data service providers (ie. the census) using the software
MapInfo and ArcGIS. |

Wesley Ratko
Summer 2005 - Fall 2005
Mr. Ratko is a graduate student in the Community and Regional
Planning department at Temple University Ambler. He joined the CSC
research team in 2005 as a research assistant, creating and
digitizing GIS maps, data processing and analysis. He has completed
a planning internship at Castle Valley Consultants (New Britain, PA)
and is currently working on his master's thesis. His objective is to
pursue a Ph.D. in transportation planning with a focus on
interagency cooperative policy. |

Sherry

Jesse Sherry has graduated from the Department of Community and Regional
Planning at Temple University in 2005. He is now a doctoral student at
Rutgers Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy. He has an interest in
Sustainable Development and the design of sustainable communities. |

Ms.
Rodriguez-Herrera worked as a GIS intern for the CSC from
Spring 2004 to Spring 2005. Her responsibilities included GIS
mapping, digitizing, and data processing. She has completed a planning
internship at Triad Associates (Dresher, PA) and is now working on her
master's thesis. |

Melanie
Martin
Spring 2003 - Summer 2004
Mel Martin has graduated from the Department of Community and Regional
Planning in 2004. She is now a senior planner for the Lehigh Valley
Planning Commission in Allentown, PA. Her projects include Open Space /
Natural Resource Planning and Stormwater Management. Her objective is to
assist the Lehigh Valley in meeting open space preservation goals while
maintaining a healthy balance between low impact development and natural
resource protection. |

Justin
Ryan
Summer 2002 - Fall 2003
Justin Ryan, a graduate from the Department of Community and Regional
Planning at Temple University Ambler, worked as a GIS intern for the CSC
from August 2002 to Fall 2003. Now he works closely with President to
support initiatives of Lehigh Valley Industrial Park, Inc. and assists
with development a 1,000 acre premier industrial park within the City of
Bethlehem on the site of the former Bethlehem Steel Corporation lands.
His responsibilities include securing city planning approvals;
marketing/sales of individual parcels; writing and administering grants
and loan funds from federal, state and local sources as well as managing
sale of environmental credits; community liaison on issues of land use,
acquisition, funding and project progress; management of building
planning and approval process. |

Frank Fata
Spring 2003 - Spring 2003
Frank Fata, a graduate from the Department of Landscape Architecture at Temple University Ambler, worked as a GIS intern for the CSC
from February 2003 to Fall 2003. His
responsibilities included converting AutoCAD files into GIS format and
digitizing. His interests include AutoCAD, engineering, and golf course
design.

Matthew Hidek
Fall 2002 - Spring 2003
Matt Hidek is currently a Doctoral Student at the Maxwell
School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University
(Department of Geography). He is also a former U.S. Army Officer with a
background in field operations and intelligence planning. Prior to
beginning his studies at the Maxwell School, Matt worked as an
antiterrorism analyst at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) while
completing a M.S. in Community and Regional Planning at Temple
University. He was assigned as a planner at the Office of Maritime and
Land Security at the Transportation Security Administration. Matt also
worked with DHS’ new Geospatial Management Office (GMO) to design and
implement new mapping and intelligence planning approaches for surface
transportation systems. His research interests include hazard
mitigation, urban systems, community resilience, disaster preparedness,
and critical analysis of U.S. homeland security planning. |
