Market Analysis for the Prince Gallitzin State Park

Overview: The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) awarded the Center for Sustainable Communities at Temple University Ambler $49,830 to evaluate a market analysis of the 6,249-acre Prince Gallitzin Park in northern Cambria County.

The DCNR is examining the future use of certain state parks, predominantly exploring whether certain types of development — such as rustic lodges — should be allowed within the parks.

A consultant created a market analysis of the possibility of hospitality industry development in Prince Gallitzin State Park and Temple University was asked to evaluate that analysis.

Status: Horwath Hospitality Inc. was contracted to conduct the initial evaluation. Dr. Jeffrey Featherstone, Director of the Center for Sustainable Communities and Chair of the Department of Community and Regional Planning, and Dr. Wesley Roehl, Director of Temple’s Center for Tourism and Hospitality Management reviewed multiple drafts of Horwath’s evaluation and concurred with the consultant's final conclusion that the feasibility of allowing certain types of development in Prince Gallitzin State Park was unlikely. The Center's review of Horwath's evaluation was completed in June 2004.
