Our Mission

Temple University Ambler EarthFest is an outdoor educational festival held in celebration of Earth Day. The mission of EarthFest is to promote environmental awareness using sustainable concepts, methods, and practices to protect and preserve our environment. Organizations, businesses, colleges, high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools, and individuals demonstrate sustainable concepts and technologies, and provide interactive educational displays, activities, and much more!

Our partner, the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, offers the Junior Flower Show as part of EarthFest. With so much emphasis on the American diet and sedentary life style, the 2013 Junior Flower Show theme, "Chew on This!" will encourage students to make healthy eating and active lifestyle choices.

The Center for Sustainable Communities at Temple University Ambler is proud to host this event for the general public and students of all levels.

When EarthFest began in 2003, the event was attended by approximately 1,500 attendees and 50 exhibitors. It has grown ever since.

In 2012, there were approximately 10,000 attendees and more than 90 exhibitors! Each year this educational festival continues to grow and reach more and more children, educators, businesses, organizations, and communities in the region.

EarthFest is one of the most successful and highly anticipated events of the year at Temple University Ambler. It is central to our core values of student-centered learning, respect for the environment, and community engagement.

Thousands of students from all over the region come together and spend time learning about the world in which we live and the interconnected systems on which the lives of people and animals depend.

More than 85 exhibitors, ranging from non-profit watershed groups to for-profit businesses and high school, middle school, and elementary school student organizations, present their projects and ideas in ways that intrigue and attract young people. There is perhaps no other environmental event in the region that accomplishes this much in a single day.

In 2013, we hope to continue expanding this educational festival. The Franklin Institute, the Academy of Natural Sciences, the Philadelphia Zoo, The Insectarium, the Elmwood Park Zoo, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and dozens of other exhibitors are expected to commit to being a part of EarthFest 2013. Many past exhibitors - some of which have been with us since the beginning - that have helped to make the event so successful are returning for what we are sure will be another exciting, fun filled year!

EarthFest carries a significant operating cost, in excess of $45,000. Sponsorship gifts offset that cost, enabling us to enhance access to EarthFest for many students, teachers, and community residents throughout the region. Most participating schools have made the event a yearly highlight of their science curricula. One reason so many schools are able to participate in EarthFest is that we have never charged attendees — schools pay nothing beyond the cost of their own transportation. The high quality of the event and its affordability keep past participants coming back and encourage additional schools to attend each year!

Transportation Angels

Transportation Angels Sponsor - $250

  • Sponsor acknowledgement listing on the EarthFest Web site.

Since we would like to involve as many students in the region as possible, the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and Temple University Ambler have collaborated to create the Transportation Angels program for schools in need of funding for transportation to and from EarthFest.

Please note that Transportation Angels funding is meant for schools with genuine economic need. We encourage all schools to pursue alternative means of transportation funding with local businesses or organizations to ensure that funding is available for as many schools as possible.

Your support will ensure that children who otherwise might not be able to attend EarthFest 2012 will have a special, educational day as they learn how they can help protect and preserve the planet for this and future generations.
