CENTER FOR SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES TO PARTICIPATE IN LAND USE AND TRANSPORTATION SEMINAR WHERE: Upper Dublin Township Building, 801 Loch Alsh Avenue WHEN: Friday, July 8, 8 to 11:30 a.m. Anyone who has driven during morning traffic or afternoon rush hour in Eastern Montgomery County can get a clear sense of just how congested the region’s roads can become. In an effort to seek regional solutions to ongoing traffic concerns, the Center for Sustainable Communities at Temple University Ambler will participate in a special seminar entitled “Planning, Implementing and Managing Projects by Maximizing Land Use and Transportation” on Friday, July 8, from 8 to 11:30 a.m. The seminar, which is being hosted by the Greater Valley Forge Transportation Management Association (GVFTMA), will be held at the Upper Dublin Township Building, 801 Loch Alsh Avenue. During the seminar, Dr. Jeffrey Featherstone, Director of the Center for Sustainable Communities and Chair of the Department of Community and Regional Planning at Temple University Ambler, will share general information about the Center and ongoing transportation research. “This area is really a unique slice of the region as a whole in that it includes the major development centers of the eastern part of the county. It has been getting lots of attention these days — from controversial redevelopment proposals, to various initiatives to improve business campuses, to flooding and traffic concerns,” Dr. Featherstone said. “Municipalities must work together across municipal boundaries in order to find positive solutions to these ongoing issues that directly impact quality of life in the region.” Additional speakers at Friday’s seminar will include Brain Keaveney of Penoni Associates who will discuss the I-476/PA 309 Unified Traffic Management program; Phil Cheney, Urban Engineers — PA Route 309 Expressway Reconstruction Project; Upper Dublin Township Manager Paul Leonard — Quick Clearance/Steer-It-Clear; and Ward Fitzgerald, Liberty Property — Keys to Successful Commercial Development. The Center for Sustainable Communities is a working resource for government agencies, community organizations, and developers. It provides objective information and services to improve decision-making relative to land use and water resources planning in addition to conducting interdisciplinary research and offering educational and community outreach programs. The Mission of the Greater GVFTMA is to offer a forum in which the business community and municipal, county, and state officials can collectively work on transportation issues affecting the Greater Valley Forge area. A goal of GVFTMA is to enhance mobility and safety through the reduction of congestion and pollution. For more information on the VFTMA seminar, please call 215-643-1600 x3272.
