TEMPLE UNIVERSITY AMBLER “ACTS UP!"

A lover's triangle; a coming-of-age-story; a zany farce.

This is not a listing of what is playing at the local Cineplex. They are the creations of students at Temple University Ambler.

Students from the Ambler campus will present a series of five one-act plays written, directed, and performed entirely by the students from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, November 27, in the Learning Center Auditorium.

The third annual "Temple Acts Up!" event is free and open to the public, though voluntary donations will be requested at the door to support the Poet Laureate Contest sponsored by the campus literary magazine, The Parable.

The participating students are all part of a playwrighting course taught at the Ambler campus this fall by Dr. Diana Pazicky, Faculty Coordinator for the English Department at Ambler. This year’s featured performer is professional actress Linda Palmarozza, Manager of the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture at Ambler.

"The plays were selected by the students as the most accomplished and they vary widely in genre and subject matter, which I think reflects the broad range of interest and creativity among our students” Dr. Pazicky said. "This event marks the first theatrical performance in Ambler’s new auditorium and we hope to have a big turnout from students, faculty, and staff for this significant moment in the history of Ambler campus."

According to Dr. Pazicky, the one-act plays will include:

  • An edgy, realistic drama about a lover’s triangle.

  • A memory play in which a hard-drinkin’, hard-livin’ mother rises up out of her coffin.

  • A zany farce in which an angry son confronts his father in the form of a dictionary.

  • A surreal dialogue between a dead girl and  her guilt-ridden lover.

  • A subtle, realistic coming-of-age play about two friends who have a problem with alcohol.

The event will include one intermission at which refreshments will be served, provided by the Office of Student Life.
